The Magnificent Mile is one of the world's most famous streets. It is known primarily for high end shopping. Some of the world's most recognizable hotels are located within walking distance from it making any long or short visit not only convenient for travelers, but also entertaining. At the northern end of the street, the historical Water Tower stands as a symbol of survival from the Great Chicago Fire. The water tower Chicago mall is only a few blocks away. Its a great place to shop for speciality shops, food, and some of the bigger named depart stores such as Macy's. At the other end, the Wrigley building welcomes shoppers crossing the Michigan Avenue bridge to "the Magnificent Mile", the other name for this portion of Michigan Avenue. Approximately a block north, you will reach one of the first shopping malls on the Magnificent Mile, the Westfield North Bridge Shopping Center. In fact, if you are looking for malls in downtown Chicago, this is the area to be. Street performers are located throughout the magnificent mile. The two most notable types being the “statue” and the “paint pail drummers”. Although the steady tapping of the drummers can become unnerving at times, they have steadily become part of the sound of the magnificent mile as much as the sight of crowds of shoppers blissfully walking with crisp designer shopping bags. The street performers posing as statues (give them money and they move) are much less intrusive. They are usual spotted with a crowd around them snapping pictures and staring with great intensity. |

| The various colors camouflaging the performers have helped them maintain their appeal on the magnificent mile. Over the years I have seen the yellow man, silver man, two blue guys, and (my favorite) the pink lady. The top four downtown shopping centers are located on the Magnificent Mile. You can easily spend hours in each one. The Magnificent Mile is a must for any vacationer, tourist, weekender, or true shoppers to Chicago. |
