State Street is a major north-south thoroughfare in Chicago. A great deal of State Street lies between Wabash Avenue on the east and Dearborn Street on the west. Its intersection with Madison Street marks the base point for Chicago's address system and the center of State Street's primary shopping interest. Although there are many places to shop on State Street, the best and most recognizable shopping venues are located between Lake Street on the north and Congress Parkway on the south. In addition, some of the most recognized hotels in the world are scattered in walking distance from State. State Street is a definite must for any Chicago tourist, traveler, or vacationer. Michigan avenue and in particular, the Magnificent Mile, have become the number one shopping designation in Chicago and in the Midwest. However, State street does still offer tourist and visitors an opportunity for a less "stroll" driven experience than the one you get on the Mag mile. In addition you have several new stores and a great deal of renovation currently occurring on State street. Most areas are still developing, but there is a good mixture of local and mainstream stores on this street to give visitors to Chicago a flavor of the city and a familiarity to what they already know. Its definitely worth a trip. |
