| Shoppers and tourist usual began their shopping experience on State at the north-south intersection at Lake. Most of the popular stores and entertainment venues on State (and in "the loop") are located within a few blocks of CTA stations scattered throughout the area. Near the top of State Street is the Chicago Theater. The Chicago Theater opened in 1921 and was the city's premier movie house. Decades later, after a multi-million dollar restoration, the theater now hosts musicals, concerts, and other live performances. It is a shining example of the relevance of historical preservation. If you are interested in browsing a vast selection of books and music, Border's Bookstore is located at the corner of Randolph and State. It has cozy chairs and an in-store café for all of your caffeinated beverage needs. |
